Customizing a Flip Camera

flip-camera-photo.jpg I designed this Flip camera for my company as a Christmas gift to our clients. It turned out great! This is my second time doing it, and it turned out much better than the first time. I took this photo with my iPhone (sorry it’s out of focus).

Coming to a PowerPoint Near You

innovation_poster.jpg Apparently, a poster design I did in school is being used as a supporting graphic in articles – which is cool because:
1) Even though the actual poster is sitting in my closet collecting dust (sorry Professor Byrne), it’s being somewhat useful to others
1) It means that my poster is successful in correctly communicating the idea of Innovation. Which is much better than the actual grade I received on it (heh heh)

Here are the articles I’m talking about:
Nurturing an Innovation Driven Culture by Michael Plishka
Gelecein is yapsn tasarlamak by Yusuf Ozan (and no, I can’t read it either).

Now I’m just waiting for a phone call from a publisher that wants to use it in a book. I wouldn’t mind having some extra rent money. But I guess for now I’ll keep searching the image name in Google to see where else it’s popping up.

Or even better, it may be coming to a PowerPoint near you. Let me know. Every company has a PowerPoint on innovation, right?

Market This!

See my name in the credits? Ok so there were 20 other people mentioned on that page but hey, it’s nice to be recognized in a published book.

The book is called “Market This! A 90-day Marketing Tool”, by Sherry Prescott-Willis. She came to my company’s creative team about a year ago with the opportunity to work on her book cover and we went wild with it — creative projects like this are rare, and so refreshing. And what could be more challenging than marketing a marketing book?

market-this-sketches.jpg I wish I could show you all the designs we did for her book cover, because they were all fantastic. Here are the three final designs from my company’s creative team. I did the first two, my creative director did the last one (which is what you’ll see on the bookshelves now).

Curiosity #4: Restaurant.com

Anyone who knows me knows two things – I love food, and I love to be be frugal about it. Solution? www.restaurant.com. It’s basically a website that encourages diners to try out local restaurants using their gift certificates. You can get a $25 gift certificate for $10, a $50 for $15, and so on. If you want to be extra thrifty like me, get one around a holiday – you just enter a discount code when you check out and your total gets knocked down 60% or 70%.

The only catch is you need to order a minimum amount of food, a 18% tip is not included, etc…but you still save some money in the end. Just check out the before and after receipts from my last dining experience (top). I just bought a $25 gift certificate for $3 using a holiday promotion, which I’m going to use at a local French restaurant. Woo hoo!

4-wheeling

mud-bad.JPG Nope, this is not a truck rally, dirt road in the middle of Georgia, or neglected pig sty. This is my driveway. And as much fun as it would be to go up and down it in a 4×4, my little Honda complains every time it gets stuck in a ditch and starts sinking…and sinking…

mud-from_front.JPG There’s something really cool about having a dirt road lead up to my little cottage (both are unusual for this area). But no, not in winter. There’s nothing charming about the squish-squish-sink-squish-squish way I make it to the front door, nor is there anything fun about tripping over rocks and falling headfirst into mud, like I did last week. Ouch.
