Market This!

See my name in the credits? Ok so there were 20 other people mentioned on that page but hey, it’s nice to be recognized in a published book.

The book is called “Market This! A 90-day Marketing Tool”, by Sherry Prescott-Willis. She came to my company’s creative team about a year ago with the opportunity to work on her book cover and we went wild with it — creative projects like this are rare, and so refreshing. And what could be more challenging than marketing a marketing book?

market-this-sketches.jpgI wish I could show you all the designs we did for her book cover, because they were all fantastic. Here are the three final designs from my company’s creative team. I did the first two, my creative director did the last one (which is what you’ll see on the bookshelves now).

market-this1.jpgI really liked the way this turned out. It’s a book cover marketing the same book, marketing the same book, marketing the same book - hall of mirrors style! The problem with this one is that we were on a tight budget for the cover design, and this particular photo costed an obscene amount of money. It’s also one of those times where this one and only photo could capture the idea perfectly, so recreating the image didn’t seem like an option. So unfortunately, this had to be given up.

market-this2.jpg This one focused more on singularity - using marketing as a tool to stand out from the rest of the crowd (the pink piggy bank is way happier than all the other ones). This was also an expensive photo to use (you’d think I’d learn already), but Sherry loves this design and wants to see this on the new edition of the book. I can’t wait!

market-this-no-background.jpg This design is from my creative director, Jay. I love how it’s so simple, direct, and well…bright. It’s definitely eye-catching, and will pop from the rest of the books on the shelves. A great way to introduce a brand new marketing book!

Thanks to Sherry for mailing me a copy of the book.

Thanks! I’ll let you know if they actually use it for the next edition. I’m crossing my fingers :)

It’s kind of weird designing the cover of a book you’ve never read, but I guess that’s just the way it goes. Maybe I should read the book now…
