One Egg, Seven Omelettes

April 26th, 2010 18 comments

My friend Yizhuo sent me a message asking if I was interested in trying the emu egg she got at the farmer’s market, and of course, I jumped at the opportunity! Who wouldn’t want to try eating a dinosaur-looking egg? (Ok, so as it turns out, plenty of people. But I, being QuiteCurious, was pretty excited.)

Since an emu egg is equivalent to 10-12 eggs, I got some gusty, food-loving people together, threw together a menu, and on Saturday morning, we had a fun emu omelette brunch. It was such a great experience, since most of have never seen - or thought about eating - an emu egg before. We marveled at its beauty, poke and prodded it, and devoured it.

My OXO Demos Are In!

April 15th, 2010 2 comments

There was a box that arrived for me the other day, and in it I found an OXO Anniversary Edition Upflit Tea Kettle (which is gorgeous, it’s displayed on my bookshelf instead of being used on my stove)…and in the same box was a DVD of all of the final demo videos that were filmed by the OXO video contest winners as part of the grand prize. The videos will be showcased on their new site (not live yet), but they were nice enough to send the videos over for a sneak peek!

First of all, I have to say that Jon and Yvette did an amazing job in their videos! I did okaaay - being in front of the camera isn’t my forte - but I had fun doing it, which is what really matters. It was a great experience I wouldn’t trade for the world.

Yusuf & Ashley’s Wedding

April 13th, 2010 3 comments

Almost immediately after Mike bought the ‘71 VW Bus (”Boris”), our good friends Yusuf and Ashley pounced at the idea of Boris being the getaway car. And of course, we were more than happy to be part of the wedding!

A few weeks before the wedding, the wheels were painted, the exterior touched up, and Boris was dressed up to the nines in bright purple flowers (how masculine). But we wanted to make the experience really fun for Yusuf and Ashley, so we also made sure we rolled up in ridiculous ’70s garb and obnoxiously loud disco music. While I was decked out in a psychedelic dress and big shades, Mike was sporting a fake hippie beard and actual homemade tie-dye he made the night before.

Nooks & Crannies

April 10th, 2010 6 comments

English muffins just aren’t English muffins if they don’t have the nooks and crannies. The English muffins I made the first time had the texture of plain dinner rolls. Good, but…boring.

So I did some research and found out why it turned out the way it did: I needed really, really wet dough. Like dough so sticky you may need to spoon it out of the bowl. Whoops. So the second time I made English muffins, I used closer to 1 cup of water instead of the 3/4 I used the first time, and I got the results I wanted. Mission accomplished.

Swagapalooza!

March 25th, 2010 12 comments

What is Swagapalooza? It’s just about the most fun, casual, unpretentious PR event you can possibly go to. Here’s how it works. You, the founder of an interesting startup, go to Swagapalooza to pitch your idea to 85 bloggers, who in turn, are encouraged to write reviews for their followers. The catch? You need to give away whatever you’re talking about.

And that’s where I come in. I love to photography. I love blogging. And most of all, I love free stuff. My friend Yuichi sent me a link to this article on Springwise, and I knew I had to go. I applied by writing a 512 character paragraph about “What makes you a top digital influencer?” and here I am, with an open mind and a nice, big, empty bag for my goodies.
